The Minor hurlers had a good year, starting slowly but improving as the year progressed. The panel grew to 28 players including 5 from the under 16 panel. They integrated and combined well closing out the year as a closely-knit bunch of friends. With a strong affiliation with the club.
The League went well for Ballinteer giving them a head to head match to win the Southside and get to the final, however, they were unable to field their strongest team due to player availability and inter-county restrictions and they lost out to Saint Jude’s. A good run in the Championship saw Ballinteer top the round robin group, winning significantly in the quarter-final but fell short in the semi-final to Thomas Davis, with a well below par performance.
A number of the Minor Team played up with the under 21, Junior and Senior Teams throughout the year gaining valuable experience and familiarity with their older club colleagues who they will play with going forward.
Special mention for Brian Smith and Tom Aherne who represented Dublin in Minor Hurling during the year with Tom also, on the county under 17 team. Brian Smith won the Player of the Year Award following a tight vote, followed closely by Cian Barry and Tom Aherne.
A big thank you to our capable Captain, Patrick Watchorn, the parents and supporters who helped us out throughout the year, the jersey sponsors KMCS, and also to the management team of Ian Mitchell, Ken Sheehan, Michael Rafter and Aidan Barry.
A good year for the team, no trophy but more importantly a great bunch of friends who have demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate their strong commitment to the club. They will be great assets in building out the future success of Ballinteer Saint Johns.
